Dr. Smith is a licensed Psychotherapist, Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Master Addiction Counselor, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional II, Cultural Somatic Facilitator, and Registered Yoga Teacher. Dr. Smith is also a professor with Pepperdine University in the Graduate Psychology and Counseling program. She is a 27 year veteran of the United States Navy, serving as a Chief Petty Officer (HMC) Hospital Corpsman and Sexual Assault Therapist. She has lived in Iceland, Scotland, and The Republic of the Philippines, Guam, Scotland, Australia, and various locations throughout the world while serving in the Navy.
She has worked with veterans, families of military and Gold Star Mothers as well as First Responders and their families for over 20 years in various capacities, from group to individuals to training.
Dr. Smith obtained a Doctorate in Psychology from California Southern University (Psy.D), Master of Education from University of Missouri, and Master of Health Science from Washington University, St. Louis (M.Hs). She has advanced certifications in Trauma and Complex -PTSD. She is certified in EMDR, DBT, and CBT. She is a Consultant-In-Training for EMDR as well.
She is currently working as a Trauma Therapist at Washington University School of Medicine and has a private practice in Clayton, MO and Telehealth. She conducts training and workshops on wellness, trauma, racial trauma, addiction and self-care. She was awarded the Excellence in Education award in 2016 and the Volunteer of the Year award in 2020 for service with the YWCA.
