Joy Gillespie, MSW, LCSW
St. Charles Counseling Associates
1236 Jungermann Road., Suite D, St. Peters, MO 63376
Joy graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2010 with her Master's Degree in Social Work. She has been in practice for 10 years. As a certified EMDR psychotherapist, Joy specializes in treating trauma, complex PTSD, and anxiety disorders in adults. Her clinical background in the past 10 years involves working on psych units in hospital settings as a psychiatric social worker, providing outpatient counseling services for adults in community health clinics, and providing psychotherapy services to adults in private practice.
Joy has a strong passion for helping adults struggling with perfectionism or anxiety/worry, people who are troubled by their "unfinished business" from the past, those that identify themselves as "people pleaser", and people who somehow feel like they are not good enough. Many of Joy's clients report being abused or neglected in some way some time in their lives, especially in their childhood. Other clients Joy sees serve as first responders in the community who witness(ed) traumatic events at the workplace. Joy firmly believes everybody can heal from past wounds given the right resources and support.
Joy's therapeutic approach is compassion-based and emotion-based. It is her top priority to provide a safe, confidential, compassionate and non-judgmental space for clients to work through current struggles. She is committed to helping you identify the core issues leading up to the present concerns, and providing the necessary knowledge and tools for you to gain more insight into current issues. She will explain all the treatment options in detail, and you will work closely as a team to come up with a treatment plan that best meets your therapeutic needs and goals.
