Deanna is a Licensed Practicing Counselor, Medication Awareness Recovery Specialist, Certified Clinical Trauma Specialists (with EMDR), Certified Telemental Health Specialist, Moral Reconation Therapist, Moral Reconation-Breaking the Chains of Trauma Therapist. She graduated with a Master’s in Psychology from Divine Mercy University with focus in theology and philosophy as applied to psychological theory and the human person in 2016. She graduated with a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Avila University in 2018 where she focused on internship with the Jackson County Public Defender in sexually violent predator (SVP) recidivism and impact on the family. She began student internship in substance abuse with McCambridge Women’s and Children’s Residential / Outpatient Program and stayed 3 years. She then spent one year practicing as a Co-occurring substance abuse therapist in Boone County treatment court before leaving the corporate setting for private practice and as owner of HATS Counseling, LLC (Helping Addiction, Trauma & Self-development). www.hatscounseling.com
Her experience with first responders began with military grandfathers (WWI & II) and uncles (Korea, Vietnam, Desert Strom). She is a military spouse and mom. She recently lost a career in law enforcement Uncle (https://www.carryager.com/obituary/HaroldKeith-Burnham) and is a law enforcement mom. She is a medical extended family & mom. She has been a foster mom and has done extensive legislative work & research on the McKinney Vento Act (homeless and runaway “youth”). She has a love for our country, has certificates in Constitution 101 and 102 from Hillsdale College, and has served as Constitution Committee Chair for Daughters of the American Revolution teaching students about our founding documents. She has been the recipient of the National Daughters of the American Revolution Regional Constitution Week Award. She has raised guinea pigs, cows, goats, sheep, rabbits, hogs, hunt deer, ate squirrels, shucked corn, rode horse, drove tractors, and bucked a few haybales in her time. So much more. She has worn many HATS.
Clinical interests and modalities include PTSD, substance use, human trafficking, domestic issues, anxiety, depression, autism (Asperger’s), risk taking behaviors, co-occurring, simple biofeedback, and overstimulation issues.
