Beth Salmo earned a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Arkansas - Fayetteville and has 10 years of experience. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Missouri and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois, with an additional telehealth license in Florida. Beth is also a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP), the latter of which means she has experience helping people with occupational stressors and working with managers to identify opportunities for change.
Beth owns Thin Line Counseling Services LLC, where she specializes in helping first responders and others with high occupational stress, as well as their loved ones. Beth is trained in and practices trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, operates from a Reality-Choice lens, and works often with individuals presenting with anger, trauma, depression, and anxiety/panic as well as moral injury. When appropriate, she uses therapeutic humor to make a difficult process more comfortable for clients.
In addition to working with first responders and related professionals (law enforcement, firefighters, EMS, corrections, etc.), Beth supports the military and veteran community and is enrolled in a program to augment her skills to help all warriors. She also takes a special interest in healthcare workers - including veterinarians - and has worked with many neurodivergent children and adults. Beth's clientele now consists of people aged 18+, though much of her experience has been with children, adolescents, and families. She has also worked for managed care organizations [health insurance] and therefore has a unique perspective on how insurance works, which many clients have found helpful.
In addition to running her practice, Beth volunteers for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). She started her dream practice in late 2021 following the death of a former partner, who worked for many years in law enforcement. Having several friends and loved ones in public service roles - including being a law enforcement significant other for many years - Beth personally understands the issues and dynamics that can present in these relationships. She is led by a passion and calling to help and advocate. Beth is conducting sessions virtually at this time, and can see anyone anywhere in MO, IL, and FL.
Other than working her tail off, Beth enjoys trivia nights; singing and listening to music; playing with and caring for animals; exploring the outdoors (hiking and kayaking); trying new food; traveling; playing tennis; working toward a private pilot's license; and making sure her retired Marine partner doesn't eat any crayons.
